alright. So, hypothetically, if I were to convert a movie file to MPEG 2 with Any Video Converter (http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/) Would it keep the aspect ratio? and if so, could I then load that file into DVDAuthorGUI/GUI for DVDAuthor?

If the anamorphic mpeg2 is created correctly, dvdAuthor will have no problems with it (it must contain nav-packets, of course). I have created probably hundreds of DVDs using dvdAuthorGUI and GUI for dvdAuthor with no problems.

Once the mpeg2 file is created, you can make sure it's anamorphic (16:9) by viewing it with VLC. While watching, select menu-path
Video / Aspect-Ratio / 4:3
This should make everything suddenly look taller.
